Little Snitch is a traditional software firewall for macOS. You can use it to monitor applications, preventing or permitting them to connect to attached networks through advanced rules. OpenSnitch is a GNU/Linux port of the Little Snitch application firewall written in Python.
The software is still in early stage of development, and alpha quality software, don’t rely on it (yet) for your computer security. However, this software can be very useful for Linux desktop users.

Installation
Dec 28, 2019 It seems very simple compared to Little Snitch, however, seems to do a very similar job -without some of the 'advanced' features. 2 things I miss already: - is the network monitor in the menu bar. With Little Snitch, you'd have a green bar for downstream and red bar for upstream, each with the data transfer speed as well. Correction: Quora User has told me that Little Snitch is a MacOS application. The argument does still apply - MacOS software can be closed source and as such you don’t always know what it’s doing. Ubuntu (and indeed the Linux kernel) has Apparmor built in and the tools to run a firewall. Anfd is a perl script which does the job, but it is not at all as userfriendly as little snitch. There is a good, but German wiki page. Download the script here and run it with anfd -h to see the following help text: anfd - Ain't no firewall daemon.
